Patient Transport Officer - Job description

Patient Transport Services (PTS) drive patients to and from their hospital appointments and, when required, help patients settle back home following appointments.

Typical duties of the role include:
Collecting and transferring patients from home to hospital appointments.

Helping/Lifting patients that are not able to make their own way to the ambulance.

Transporting safely and being punctual for all non
- emergency appointments.

Support/help patients to settle back at home after appointments.

Driving in a C Class vehicle.

Keeping Journey records updated and accurate.

PTS may deal with elderly people, people with a physical disability or mental health problems.

At PTS may also need to transport people who are seriously ill with specific medical needs and can be unpredictable.


You will need to have a good eye for detail and be able to react to situations quickly within your environment and take control to defuse any intense circumstances.


Qualifications and training required:

As PTS you need a FREC 3 or First Aid at Work Certificate.

Minimum requirements for this role
Hold a current DBS or a DBS check will be provided by the company.


Hold a full current driving licence for not less than 1 year, allowing up to a maximum of 6 points.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Safely and efficiently operate a delivery vehicle to transport people to designated locations
  • Plan and follow the most efficient routes for timely deliveries
  • Load and unload people, ensuring proper handling and securing of people or passengers. Communicate with customers to confirm delivery details and address any concerns or issues
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel usage, and delivery times
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, reporting any issues or repairs needed
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while on the road.
  • Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Proven experience as a commercial driver or delivery driver
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and team members
  • Knowledge of commercial driving regulations and safety standards
  • Ability to navigate using GPS or other navigation systems
  • Strong organizational skills to manage delivery schedules and paperwork
  • Physical stamina to handle loading/unloading of people and long hours of driving.
  • Skills:
  • Experience in working in health sector operations is a plus
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle repairs or maintenance
  • Ability to drive various types of vehicles, such as vans and small cars.

£12.00-£18.00 per hour
