Introduction to the role and team


You will be an integral part of the Community Delivery Team often being the face of the Active Well Being Society to the participants of our local runs and walks, delivering activity and being at the very heart of what we do.


We are a small but effective and dynamic team all working together to promote and support Active Wellbeing in the community.


This is an exciting role with a fantastic opportunity to really make a difference to people in the local community.

Special requirements of the post:


Please note a large proportion of this position will be based outdoors, throughout the whole year, so you must be happy working in the great outdoors.


In this post you will be travelling across the city on a daily basis, visiting multiple sites in a day.

Main duties

  • Organise and deliver walking and running events, gentle walking pre couch to 5km, couch to 5km, 5 to 10km, as agreed with Community Delivery Manager.
  • Encourage people to develop their walking and running activity, including signposting and supporting local and regional events with partner organisations.
  • Identify, nurture/mentor volunteers into the programme to support delivery longer term and working with sessions leaders/volunteers to actively promote sessions and ensure delivery is of a good quality.
  • Identify and work with key local partners from within local communities to meet gaps in local provision.
  • Develop new opportunities to participate for all sectors of the local population, in particular working in targeted communities and with under-represented groups to ensure that running is brought to new audiences with a particular focus on the inactive.
  • Develop relationships within communities to become a trusted source for delivery.
  • Take responsibility for developing and organising appropriate and sustainable local running and walking events to give opportunities to take part to people with no previous running experience, or who are physically inactive.
  • Work closely with Marketing to promote activity that is targeted and specific to the priority and target communities within the scheme that, as an activator, you are responsible for (including the development of media news stories from the project).
  • Engage with other organiser's providing running and walking offers to join up a complete running and walking offer in the city.
  • Ensure all sessions, projects, programmes and activities are inclusive, and cater for a full range of runners, including those who won't progress in the traditional way.
  • Work within the parameters of the run and walk projects as directed by the Project Manager and Team Leader to ensure that delivery plan targets are met and that the scheme is delivered in full as per the funding requirements.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders and ensure connectivity between agencies, community groups, the wider athletics community and other key organisations in the local community, health related groups and local businesses.
  • To maintain administrative and financial records as required.
  • Evidence of a commitment to ongoing personal development and training.
  • To be first point of contact for Running & Walking Activity in designated areas
