The Role

All archaeological sites produce physical and digital materials that constitute the project archive. The Archives team plays a crucial role in preparing this archive for deposit with relevant institutions.


We are expanding our Archives team and seeking an individual with a keen interest in archaeology and archives, offering training for those with limited experience to develop as a trainee.


This position is office-based, primarily involved with archaeological archives: preparing paper, physical, and digital archives to internal standards and the requirements of recipient institutions. It may also encompass basic tasks related to finds, samples, data, and other post-excavation activities, with adequate training provided.


Key responsibilities:


  • Preparation and deposition of project archives (physical, documentary, and digital)
  • Packaging, storage, transportation, and handling of artifacts and ecofacts
  • Preparation of site documentation and toolkits
  • Processing of artifacts, ecofacts, and environmental samples
  • Conducting finds first aid
  • Maintaining processing equipment and area
  • Completing site data entry
  • Enhancing knowledge and skills
  • Other post-excavation tasks based on skills and knowledge

Essential skills:
  • Interest in British Isles archaeology
  • Adherence to safety protocols, specifically in artifact and environmental work
  • IT proficiency, including familiarity with MS Office
  • Attention to detail with precise observation and record-keeping abilities
  • Strong communication skills, able to work independently or in a team
  • Enthusiastic about learning and development, with support and training provided
  • Passionate, driven, and dedicated to your work

Desired skills:
  • Knowledge and experience in archaeology, archiving, or related fields
  • Full clean driving license and willingness to operate company vehicles
