Working under the umbrella of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) is a government agency dedicated to safeguarding the nation from animal diseases and identifying infections that could impact people, the environment, and the economy.

The Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) team within the Department of Bacteriology is looking for an experienced immunologist to contribute to Defra's TB eradication plan, aiming to eliminate the disease by 2038.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in various laboratory skills and will support the bovine TB vaccine development program, research studies on protection and pathology, as well as the creation of new diagnostics for cattle and other animals. They will conduct a range of immune assays, diagnostic tests, and investigations in high containment laboratories.

We welcome applications from individuals with a degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Experience working in an environment accredited to quality standards such as ISO9001 and/or ISO17025 would be advantageous.

The Weybridge site is a key national asset, serving as a reference laboratory during national emergencies like disease outbreaks. All employees at the APHA Weybridge site must have valid security clearance. Applicants must be UK residents with at least 3 years of continuous UK residency.
