Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant in Paediatrics. The post will have a special interest in Rheumatology/Gastroenterology/Allergy. The Directorate provides services across 3 hospital sites within the county of Worcestershire.

As a Trust we are actively involved in developing the training program for students from the Three Counties Medical School based in Worcester which opens in September 2023.

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant in Paediatrics and Neonates, to replace a retiring colleague.

You will be responsible for the clinical care of neonates, children and young people working independently in acute, outpatient and emergency situations but with the knowledge that you can rely on a very supportive team of multi-specialty consultant colleagues within the directorate.

This is an exciting time to join our unit and our diverse but cohesive consultant team.

We are planning for a new Paediatric Assessment unit (PAU) and expansion of our high dependency service offer, with plans to redesign many specialty services and collaborate with wider teams.


All consultants work in countywide roles:

most clinical sessions at Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH) but outpatient sessions may be at other hospital sites including Kidderminster Treatment Centre (KTC) and the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch (ALX) as well as local community hospital sites (Evesham & Malvern).

The successful applicant will participate in a hybrid on-call covering paediatrics and neonatal medicine with 24-hour resident junior and middle grade staff.

The successful applicant should have good clinical skills in general paediatrics and neonatal medicine and we are keen to attract specialist knowledge in paediatric rheumatology, gastroenterology and/or allergy.

European Community Rights
overseas equivalent collegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Paediatrics.
Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate.
Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Commitment to Continuing Medical Education.
Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local regional or national levels.

Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call.
