We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacist to join our team of pharmacists and medicines management technicians across the surgical services at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role encompasses a variety of speciality and surgical rotations including:

General Surgery Trauma & Orthopaedics Gastroenterology

This is a challenging and dynamic role that will allow successful applicants to strengthen their clinical knowledge and expertise, whilst also enhancing their consultation and assessment skills. Additionally you will also be able to develop your negotiation, influencing, leadership and management skills. In doing so, you will be required to;

Act as a positive role model for medicines management and medicines optimisation for pharmacy colleagues and other health care professionals, Utilise transcribing or prescribing skills effectively to enhance patient care and patient safety, Regularly participate in clinical audit and service improvements within the relevant clinical areas, Be involved in the preparation of policies and procedures, Be involved in risk reporting and management, Provide relevant and up to date education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

The pharmacy department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be dedicated to your development, supporting you in your new role with various internal and external educational opportunities available to help you further develop both your clinical and professional skills. The department hosts over 200 members of staff and provides a stimulating, friendly, and professionally rewarding environment for staff to develop their clinical expertise and professionalism.

The successful candidate will work Monday - Friday (flexible/condensed working considered), and will also be included in extended hours, weekend and on-call rotas, which are currently;

1 day weekend working once every 5 weeks (reimbursed with a weekday off the following week), 1 'late night' shift every 2 weeks (working hours , On call duties on a rolling rota basis, approximately 1 in 50.

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust is situated in the Tees Valley just a step away from the North Yorkshire Moors and coast and is well connected nationally and regionally by road, rail and air. Hospital services are provided from two main sites, the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. The James Cook University Hospital is designated as a Major Trauma Centre and as a Tertiary Care centre.

Previous experience as a hospital pharmacist

Desirable

Previous experience of audit and service development. Participation in staff training.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Master's Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent). Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Certificate in Pharmacist Independent Prescribing, or working towards this qualification

Skills

Essential

Analytical and judgmental skills. Problem solving skills. Ability to communicate complex information to patients and colleagues
