We are inclusive, challenging, innovative and our goal is to Chester Pride supports, celebrates, and advocates for the LGBTQ+ community.

We run the annual Chester Pride event, and work year round to support vulnerable members of our community with our Just Ask helpline.

We are a small charity with a big impact that supports hundreds of LGBTQ+ people each year.


Established in 2020, initially as a response to the pandemic, Chester Pride's Just Ask helpline provides the LGBTQ+ community with support and advice on any issue or topic.

The helpline primarily refers our service users onto the appropriate support service, however this is complemented with wrap-around contact and support from our Just Ask Officer that is developed on a person centred, case-by-case basis.


The helpline has seen incredible growth over the past couple of years, with over 7,000 contacts last year, from 102 cases.

The helpline is delivering valuable and effective support that is leading to better outcomes for the LGBTQ+ community, and led to valuable partnerships with external third-sector and statutory service providers.


The Just Ask service is in a period of growth and development as we look to embark on a three year project that will see the helpline grow further.

This will increase the support it can deliver to the community, whilst strategically developing our internal infrastructure to ensure this level of delivery is sustainable and responsive to demand.


Reporting To:

Hours: 35 per week

Salary:
£25,000

Duties:

  • Maintain and use a robust case management framework
  • Ensure all personal information is managed in a GDPR compliant manner
  • Manage inbound communications, and respond to enquiries in a timely manner
  • Communicate outwardly to follow up with service users, and offer ongoing assistance
  • Recruit and train volunteers, and assign volunteers to assist with cases as required
  • Where Chester Pride does not currently offer services or information build a network of partner organisations to refer cases to, and follow up on referred cases with both the service user and partner organisation
  • Assist and support partner organisations, finding solutions for joint delivery, or expansion of service provision using Chester Pride volunteers or resources
  • Work with the Management Committee to develop the three year plan for service delivery, with a focus on sustainability and flexibility in scale
  • Deal with all service users in an unbiased and judgement free manner, and ensure volunteers act in the same way
  • Generate reports and feedback from service users to assess the effectiveness of the project, and adapt approaches based on this feedback.
  • Report regularly to the Chester Pride Management Committee
  • Manage a small expenses budget for volunteers and case related costs, ensuring that all items purchased are properly receipted
  • Act as ambassador for Chester Pride, and represent it properly at all times

Just Ask Officer - Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Qualification in social work (or similar field)
  • Educated to degree level, or workplace equivalent qualifications
  • GCSE's grade C/4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of complex problem solving
  • Background, or experience in social care, or similar field
  • Handling of cases and using process to ensure effective management
  • Development of logical processes and procedures with clear methods to follow
  • Management of staff and volunteers
  • Establishing and delivering partnership work
  • Experience of working in a charity or charitable field
  • Budget and finance management
  • Generating thorough and clear reporting of work
  • Experience of evaluating impact and effectiveness of work
  • Multitasking and management of varied and complex workload
