Band 4 [fixed term] when in training moving to Band 5 [permanent] when qualified
2 full time posts across Stoke on Trent at one of the following sites:
Sutherland Centre - Dresden, Stoke on Trent
Greenfields Centre - Tunstall, Stoke on Trent
Start date - September 2023
The Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner will be required to:
- Demonstrate the ability to work at degree level (the MHWP training is at either Level 6 or Level 7)
- Have experience of work including interacting with the public, working as part of a team, analysing complex information, and communicating effectively
- Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain empathic, supportive relationships with people in significant distress, their families and carers.

During the one-year graduate certificate, or postgraduate certificate training, the post holders will develop knowledge and practice skills to be able to deliver wellbeing focused psychologically informed interventions for adults both individually and in groups, as well as providing support for their families and carers.
Applicants will need to meet both the Worcester University and this Trust's eligibility requirements for appointment, as identified in the Job Description.

The focus for these posts is to contribute to ensuring adults with severe mental health problems have greater access to psychologically informed interventions.
These 2 posts will sit within the Community Mental Health Teams in Stoke on Trent based at either the Greenfields Centre, Tunstall or at the Sutherland Centre, Dresden.
These team provide evidence based interventions for those with complex mental health difficulties and associated risks. The roles will involve 1-1 and group based interventions.The Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner will:
- attend all elements of the training programme of study and progress successfully through assessments of competence and attainment
- develop and practice psychologically informed interventions under supervision, working directly with adults in the community
- support collaborative care planning, alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team
- work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals to deliver a set of brief wellbeing focused psychologically informed interventions (not therapy), for example:
- Behavioural Activation and Graded Exposure using the "GOALS" programme
- Problemsolving
- Improving sleep
- Recognising and managing emotions
- Guided selfhelp for bulimia and bingeeating
- Confidence building
- Support with medicines management
With respect to the post holders NHS work, the Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners, will be line managed by the Team Manager, and receive clinical supervision from a psychologist or BABCP accredited therapist.
Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic our psychological work is being delivered in both a virtual and a face-to-face way and following socially distancing guidelines as necessary.
It is anticipated that a proportion of our work will continue to be delivered virtually as we transform our services following the COVID-19 pandemic.
