Do you want the autonomy and freedom to enhance the lives of the people we support?_

We are seeking male Support Workers who are interested in supporting two men who have a diagnosis of autism and learning disability.

The support is on a 2:1 or 1:1 basis due to the complexities that the gentlemen present with. Therefore, this role requires a male presenting individual as an occupational requirement under Schedule 7.2e of the Equality Act.

If the following appeals, we'd love to hear from you:

  • You want to provide true personcentred support: the people we support all have differing needs and wants; you are instrumental in making it happen
  • You would love to be part of a true community.
  • You want to become a real part of someone's life and be able to support them in all their activities.
  • You have a passion for helping others live a fulfilling and interesting life.
  • You have a calm and patient personality.
  • You like being involved in the activities of people you support: the gentleman who you will support enjoys visiting places of interest, playing musical instruments for fun, following the Hare Krishna faith, playing computer games, supporting to maintain contact with his family and friends, menu planning, cooking, supporting him to clean his flat, take his medication and attending to his job working on the estate within the community to keep it clean, safe and presentable. This means a lot of outdoor work.
  • You would enjoy working within a countryside environment. We have many animals at Larchfield so you may experience some of the fragrances of nature

Who are we looking for?

  • We like people who really care about others and treat everyone with respect and dignity. If you enjoy supporting people by following their protocols and plans to have a fulfilled and happy life, then this is the job for you.
  • You will preferably have experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and distressed behaviours/emotions. However, this is not essential as training will be given. The best qualities you can have are listening, patience and empathy.
  • Along with supporting one gentleman 2:1 and another 1:1, you may also have the opportunity to support others who live at Larchfield. If you are looking for that ideal role where you can support the individual needs of the people we support; you'll enjoy taking people out to enjoy the activities they love and help them lead a fulfilling life.
  • You'll ideally have a driving license (no more than three points) but again, this is not essential.
The gentleman you'll support may wish to have a day trip:

you'll have the use of our pool cars or local public transport so you can take people out on daily activities.

  • You'll have a supportive and encouraging natural approach: the gentleman you will be supporting lives in his own flat and will need support and guidance to maintain his home, use laundry equipment, cook, plan shopping and will need help looking after his finances.
  • You'll have a general education, good numeracy and literacy skills and preferably a Level 2 or 3 NVQ in Care (or equivalent). This isn't essential as we can support you in your training and qualifications. With our training, you will be able to write daily notes, keep financial records and complete some basic reports. You will be trained to a level 3 standard in the administration of medication via the local college.

What are the main responsibilities of this role?
Working under the direction of the Team Leader, you will plan and provide support and care to foster the wellbeing and development of the people we support in accordance with their person-centred support and care plan, recording and reviewing progress as directed so that the people we support can fulfil their potential for independence, choice, inclusion and control, supporting them to:
