What does an R&D role involve ?R&D's function is to test, measure and investigate all aspects of the mechanical and structural systems of the Aston Martin Formula 1 car.

Our input is needed in hugely diverse areas of the car including chassis safety and crash testing, suspension behaviour, power unit systems and cooling, wings and structural bodywork as well as brakes and driver controls.

Working with design we will understand the demands and requirements of each critical part then design factory rigs and fixturing which allow us to test that part in as close to on-car conditions as possible.

By observing behaviour and measuring outcomes we can improve our knowledge, simulation techniques, component reliability and ultimately the performance of our racing car.

We keep run logs, observation notes, photos and video then analyse the data and produce relevant plots.

Key findings are then reported both verbally and through concise written communicationYour role will be the ownership of that full cycle of test and development for a number of car parts.

Your knowledge, ideas and collaboration will deliver the best possible value for the technical team.

You will be encouraged to identify improvement opportunities in test equipment, test methods and data analysis with a particular emphasis on cost and time efficiency.

You will be supported and trusted by your more experienced colleagues, encouraged to learn and to challenge yourself to your fullest potential.


Essential Skills & Knowledge Required :

Have a high quality degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Motorsport EngineeringAn enthusiasm for data analysisIdeally the ability to write simple code in Python or VBASome knowledge of using a modern 3D CAD systemDemonstrate honesty, inclusion and collaboration with fellow team membersPreference will be given to applicants who have experience in a relevant role either in motorsport or another high performance industry.

However, applications for a junior position will be considered for graduates who can demonstrate academic excellence and a high level of extra-curricular commitment .We are of the opinion that experience can be gained but enthusiasm and attitude are of greatest importance.
