  • HSQE Trainee


BHC is one of the UKs leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies supplying and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic HSQE Trainee to join our team.

As part of the Health and Safety Team, you will assist the HSQE manager to ensure sustainable health and safety support, leadership, and improvement across the company.

You will ensure that employee health and safety is protected to all relevant legislative requirements and internal standards.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Carry out regular Health and Safety inspections of our workshop and yard facilities, issuing reports to the respective managers with regards to close out of any subsequent actions. Will engage with all employees on any findings during inspections.
  • To update and maintain the training matrix for workshop and office, adding all training documentation to the employee folders and review training requirements with Department Heads.
  • Review and file all daily check sheets.
  • Assist with the implementation of all workshop risk assessments, along with HSQE manager.
  • Assist with inductions by attending inductions given by managers and Supervisors.
  • Assist in the investigation of all accidents and near misses.
  • Provide recommendations on how to improve Health & Safety.
  • Assist in developing a positive safety culture across the business.
  • Collate all first aid reports, incident reports and file.
  • Assist as required with construction site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks.
  • Proactively encourage the reporting of near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to drive responsibility for improvement to all employees.
  • Assist in improving employee engagement at all levels on all Health & Safety related matters, to influence change and promote a positive proactive culture.
  • Review first aid stock levels and report to HSQE manager on all purchasing requirements.
  • Review first aid / fire marshal boards to ensure these are up to date in line with the training matrix.
  • Contribute to safety committee meetings. And chair as and when necessary.
  • Contribute and assist with internal and external audits.

Key Skills -

  • Highly proficient in MS Office.
  • Confident in the ability to communicate with others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • A proactive and pragmatic approach to work.
  • Experience in a similar role would be preferred, but the willingness to learn and develop in the role are equally as important. Full on the job training will be provided.
  • Site visits will be required so a driving licence is preferrable.
