Cornwall Council are reviewing our Mental Health Social Work function and as part of this we are looking for a
permanent team leader for one of our AMHP Teams, the role will be paid at Grade 5 (£41,704 to £50,300).


The Team consists of ten AMHPs (who are also DoLS Best Interest Assessors) and it provide a duty service from 9am to 4pm and provide support for those who are primarily over 65 with some support for young people.

Under the leadership and management of the Statutory Assurance, Policy and Practice Senior Manager the post holder will

  • Provide supervision and support for the AMHPs including specific advice pertaining the use of the Mental Health Act (1983 / 2007)
  • Provide case advice / guidance to Senior Managers on our statutory responsibilities.
  • Report on the performance of the Team against set targets
  • Ensure that a minimum service level is met in order to meet the demand on the team this will be done by setting and overseeing the AMHP Duty Rota for the team.
  • Whilst the AMHP Team Leader will have primary responsibility for the daytoday functioning of the AMHP duty function, they will undertake a limited caseload of DoLS assessments (Best Interests and Mental Capacity) and will be expected to undertake a reduced level of MHA assessment work.
  • The AMHP Team Leader will also play a key role in liaison with other key stakeholders, contributing to service development work where appropriate and representing the team where required in a range of meetings.
The role holder will also work with colleagues in other agencies when arranging Mental Health Support.
