Job description


Established in 1928, with three offices in Taunton, Chard and Seaton, we pride ourselves on offering a friendly, professional and cost-effective service.

Making up Lentells Limited are ten directors who are supported by a dedicated and highly trained team of staff.

Our client base spans the South-west and beyond.

We have a large variety of owner managed businesses, and in Chard, we also have a large number of GP clients and other healthcare related businesses.


Basic vacancy details
This is a great opportunity to start to your career in Accountancy. The work will include preparing accounts, drafting tax returns, assisting with bookkeeping functions and drafting VAT returns.

You will study for your Level 3 Assistant Accountant qualification one day a week at college. After successfully completing this qualification, you will move onto the Level 4 Professional Accounting qualification.

Training to be provided


You will receive on the job training in the office and once a week, during term time, you will attend college.


You will undertake the "Assistant Accountant (AAT)" Apprenticeship with full support from Accountancy Learning as part of their Apprenticeship Programme.

Throughout the academic year, you will take exams and be assessed.

Assessment will be by an "End Point Assessment", which will include the following two elements:

  • A Structured Interview. This will consist of 10 questions asked by an AAT Independent Assessor. It will last 60 minutes and will be performed via the AAT on-line video portal. The questions will allowing you to to display the knowledge and experience you have obtained over your apprenticeship. You will build a Portfolio of reflections and product evidence that will be used to support your answers to these 10 questions.
  • An Intray Test. This will be undertaken under exam conditions and will last 105 minutes. It will be based on what you have studied in your AAT Level 3 Certificate in Accounting.


It is anticipated that your apprenticeship duration will be for 15 months, although earlier completion is possible, provided the duration exceeds one year and a week.


You will receive support from both the employer, and the training provider, to complete and achieve your Apprenticeship and will be given time to study during the week on a day release basis.

As you are working towards a professional qualification, it is also expected that you will continue your studies outside of normal office hours.


As you learn more in both the office and in your studies your responsibilities, and the variety of tasks you undertake, are expected to increase.


Working Week
Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.30pm

Vacancy description
A broad range of accounting and finance tasks will be undertaken providing experience across our activities.

Tasks at some point would include:

  • Accounts preparation
  • Preparation of expense claims for GP partners
  • Preparation of tax returns
  • Assisting with bookkeeping services
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Understanding the various accounting software in use

Desired Skills
Attention to detail, accurate, highly competent Excel skills, strong customer service ethos.

Strong team player, willingness to really get involved with all aspects of the business and an ambition to grow with it.

A positive attitude and a sparkle in the eye

Qualifications Required
A minimum of 5 GCSEs, which must include Maths & English grades 9-5 (A-C).


The position might also suit a first year undergraduate who has decided to pursue an alternative career route and earn while they learn.

However, attitude is of equal importance to aptitude.

The Chard office has a free car park, we have a 6 month salary review for trainees, starting annual leave entitlement is 20 days plus bank holidays.

We are both an ACCA approved training practice and and ICAEW trainer.
