Cycling Without Age Volunteer Coordinator

£11,498 for 20 hours per week


Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent experience
  • A passion for cycling and be an experienced and confident cyclist
  • Minimum one year of supporting vulnerable adults including older people
  • Experience of Volunteer Coordination
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends between the hours of 7am and 10pm
  • Full driving license and access to a car for work purposes

The Role:


The essence of the role of the Cycling Without Age Volunteer Coordinator (CWAVC) is to recruit volunteers and train them to become CWA volunteer "Pilots" and coordinate these volunteers to offer rides to people who are older in the community, with particular attention to those referred via the GP Social Prescribing Partner.

The responsibilities of the CWA Volunteer Coordinator will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • I am responsible for ensuring the fleet of bikes meet their annual approved bike service schedule and facilitate ad hoc maintenance issues.
  • I recruit, induct and manage all volunteer pilots and deliver their in person and classroom training and assessment.
  • I target volunteer recruitment across the whole community with particular attention to underrepresented groups
  • I receive referrals from GP based Social Prescribing Partners for passengers who would like a ride, and respond in a timely fashion.
  • I conduct an assessment to ensure that the person is suitable for a safe and successful trip out on the trikes, including any health issues for the person, and a risk assessment on the route before handing over to volunteers.
  • I coordinate volunteers and schedule of passengers to have rides including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • I am efficient in my administration and organisation skills and manage my own day to day caseload without supervision.
  • I ensure record keeping is up to date, accurate and reaches the required standards
  • I offer appropriate time and supervision opportunities for Volunteers involved in Cycling Without Age, to review their work and address any issues.
  • I update and develop the social media presence of CWA Portsmouth working with the Digital Communications and Engagement Officer.

About You:

  • Able to effectively manage and prioritise work
  • Have experience of social media platforms
  • Have the ability to selfreflect and develop and improve practice through training and review
  • Have knowledge and commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Be able to produce reports and maintain administration systems
  • Have experience with building and maintaining excellent relationships
  • Have an understanding of best practice in relation to assessing a persons ability to join a cycle ride (strengths, needs and risk assessments)
  • A skilled and reflective communicator, with excellent listening skills
