This is an exciting opportunity to join South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust as an Apprentice Physiotherapy Assistant. Successful applicants will undertakea formal apprenticeship training programme, in order to gain the knowledge,skills and competence to work as a Physiotherapy Assistant.
We are afriendly and welcoming department, looking for enthusiastic and motivated individualto join our Inpatient Physiotherapy Team and will be given opportunity toadvance and consolidate your knowledge and skills and provide ongoing therapyto a wide range of patients at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Theduration of the apprenticeship is 24 months which is subject to regular reviewsto demonstrate progress. Apprentices will commence on Annex 21* of the salarystated and to support the development in the role, the postholder is requiredto complete L3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard overthe period of the apprenticeship. Mathsand English minimum GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 or minimum Level 2 or above Maths andEnglish equivalent, is essential for the post.Following the successful completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice willmoved into a substantive position.
Main duties of the jobThe successfulcandidate will work as part of the physiotherapy team to give high quality careand facilitate discharge.
The role is fundamentally about supporting the provision of therapy services within the NHS environment, ensuring optimal patient care. The person will work as part of the therapy team and under the supervision of a qualified therapist, at times working independently with patients with non-complex conditions. This role includes weekend working.
The main dutiesof the job include:
To assist thephysiotherapist and senior therapy assistants with the assessment and treatmentof patients.
To provide anymobility aids to patients.
To undertake admintasks, other non-clinical duties and control stock levels of equipment.
To comply withTrust policies.
Keyrequirements: good interpersonal skills, problem solving approach to tasks, abilityto work independently and collaboratively within teams, ability to manage timeeffectively, ability to work effectively under pressure.

Job responsibilitiesApprentices will undertake an initial structured departmentalinduction and training programme throughout the apprenticeship to work as part of thephysiotherapy team providing assistance in delivering rehabilitation service toa client group.
Toprovide support and assistance to qualified physiotherapy staff clinically andadministratively, in order to ensure highest standards of quality andefficiency of care.
Toparticipate in appropriate, continuing professional development work under theguidance of a senior member of staff.
Toassist the physiotherapist in a range of work procedures and practices, whichrequire a base level of knowledge.
Tomaintain basic communication links with client, carers and all associatedprofessional practitioners.
Tocomplete basic clinical observations that are accurate and legally compliantand report these back to a senior member of staff if appropriate.
Toadhere to all Trust policies and procedures as they pertain to Personnel,Health & Safety and Child, Elder Protection issues and Continuing HealthCare needs.

Person Specification Personal Qualities- Commitment motivation and flexibility and ability to show initiative.
- Good organisational skills
- Basic IT skills
- Evidence of the ability to communicate with a broad spectrum of individuals.
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Ability to work under instruction from qualified staff and within guidelines.
- Able to present information written and orally in a clear and logical manner
- Ability to motivate people
- Maths & English minimum grade GCSE C/4 or L2 equivalent in the same subject
- Willing to work towards L3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship standard
- Evidence of interaction with the public or patients
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Evidence of working with people in care/exercise setting
- Recent proven experience of working with Clients in a hospital or NHS organisation.
- Experience in other therapy settings.
- Previous physiotherapy assistant Experience
- Able to meet the moving and handling requirements of the post.
- To meet the travel requirements of the post
