Position Summary

Vallum Associates are seeking a Data Scientist, who'll be essential in building data capabilities to support the business strategy to attract, retain, and progress exceptional talent from diverse backgrounds. Reporting to the Head of Innovation, you'll develop and implement data-driven solutions, optimise legal processes, enhance decision-making, and provide predictive insights for our global clients. This role requires a mix of technical skills, legal industry knowledge, and project management.

Core Responsibilities

  • Innovation: Develop and deploy legal tech solutions using AI, machine learning, and data analytics to improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Data Strategy: Collaborate with data governance and security teams to create a comprehensive data strategy, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Collaboration: Work with legal teams, IT, and external partners to align technology solutions with business needs for seamless integration.
  • Research: Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in legal tech.
  • Analysis: Identify and drive process improvements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate with stakeholders to gather requirements, update on progress, and drive technology adoption.
  • Development Oversight: Manage project timelines, deliverables, and ensure alignment with the UKIME Innovation strategy.
  • Training and Support: Create training materials and support users in new technologies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in data science, AI, or machine learning, preferably in a law firm or regulated environment.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of the legal industry is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Python and Java, with the ability to select appropriate languages for projects.
  • Leadership: experience in mentoring developers and junior data scientists.
  • Technological Proficiency: Knowledge of Large Language Models.
  • Microsoft Suite: Proficient in Power Apps, Power Automate, Dynamics 365, and Dataverse.
  • Database and Visualisation: Skilled in database management and data visualisation.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Development Experience: Experience with front-end and full-stack development is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strategic Implementation: Experience in creating a data science strategy in a professional services firm is desirable but not essential.
