In this role, you will work alongside the Head of Sustainability Engineering Centre of Excellence to drive the implementation of Global Supply Chain (GSC) carbon net zero programmes.

Leading a team of experts, you will work towards our GSC Net Zero Climate goal by 2030, through various activities including but not limited to:
water and energy reduction, creation, and implementation of carbon net zero plans and roadmaps.

Your role will include guiding capital investment decisions for GSK relating to carbon net zero, as well as collaboration with third party partners in our GSC network to align to GSK's sustainability plans.

From a capital perspective, you will ensure that these investments follow key sustainability principles such as LEED, BREAM, Green Lab and more.

You will also be heavily involved in the proposal and the decision making across the business with regards to investments towards renewable energy generation, design of new standard for new sustainable power sources (e.g. Electric boilers, solar PV, renewable head/biogas), all targeted towards the reduction/elimination of fossil fuels and introduction of alternative and innovative technologies.

This would also entail coordinating activities of the SME's team partnering with Procurement in the purchase of renewable energy and propagation of renewable energy and the propagation of renewable energy power purchase agreements for the future of GSC's infrastructure and its compatibility and future proofing for renewable technologies.

Ultimately, you will be rolling out Green Lab initiative to achieve Green Lab accreditation whilst simultaneously increasing employee engagement.

In this role you will:

  • Through leadership of a team of water and energy SME's, support GSC Engineering and EHS leadership teams with the setting and delivery of challenging but achievable targets.
  • Define GSC Carbon Net Zero strategy and roadmap and prioritise funding mechanism to ultimately achieve this strategy.
  • Lead, coach, and support GSC sites to develop a sustainable programme of project activity and deliver this programme in line with GSK expectations.
  • Lead multisite and crossfunctional teams and communities of practice, including third party partners. This will include carrying out site visits globally to support identification of energy saving opportunities and to develop and implement subsequent improvement projects.
  • Influence stakeholders at all levels, building capability at site as well as gaining support and sponsorship for programmes and capital investments.
  • Participate in, and lead, workshops, kaizans and site assessments.
  • Capture, publicise and promote best practice for the site network, using appropriate communication and knowledge management tools.

  • Degree level qualifications in an appropriate discipline
  • Significant experience in sustainability and environment and rolling out carbon net zero roadmaps. Specialised knowledge in carbon management and be able to demonstrate technical mastery in these fields.
  • Experience in procurement activities and significant experience in Energy and/or Utility Management roles at site level and Supply Chain level
  • Experience leading complex programmes and projects on a multisite scale, including the necessary influencing of senior and practitioner stakeholders both at and above site.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing site operations and multiple functions, including site utilities and services.
  • Extensive experience in prioritising and resolving complex technical or business process issues, including execution of company level strategies.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Specialist qualification/certification in an Engineering, Procurement or EHS discipline.
  • A chartered engineer with demonstrated experience in Utilities Operational Management or Utilities Project Management.
