We are looking for a Monitoring Officer to join the Project Godwit team at WWT Welney Wetland Centre to work with RSPB colleagues in implementing a monitoring programme for black-tailed godwits on project sites in the Fens. Project Godwit is a six-year EU Life funded project that is aiming to secure the future of breeding black-tailed godwits in the UK through habitat management, research, supplementing the population through headstarting, and engaging local communities. This post will also be required to assist with the trial corncrake reintroduction when necessary.
Role Outline
This role will be responsible for implementing a monitoring programme for black-tailed godwits at project sites, around the Fens with a concentration on the Ouse washes.
Working closely with RSPB colleagues to help guide the future of our black-tailed godwit monitoring plans in the Fens and assisting with our trial corncrake reintroduction, working alongside the Conservation Breeding & Monitoring Officer (Corncrake Project) to undertake avicultural and monitoring roles for this breed to release project.
About You
To join the Project Godwit team at Welney as our Monitoring Officer you'll:
- bring skills and experience of ornithological fieldwork, such as nest-finding and wildlife telemetry, ideally on wading birds.
- have the ability to conduct fieldwork independently using creativity to develop practical solutions when required and be happy to work in potentially challenging conditions.
