To be responsible for managing and supervising all pharmacy operational services activity and to ensure that the service provided complies with statutory controls, professional requirements and local/national policies and guidance on medicines and legislation.

To be responsible for procurement of medicines against agreed NHS PASA contracts and to monitor stockholding for the department.

To ensure all medicines are procured according to Trust Standing Financial Instructions and Standing orders and in accordance with relevant Medicines Legislation, Public procurement Law, National Guidance and local Standing Operating Procedures.

To take professional responsibility for clinical screening of prescriptions to ensure the accuracy, legality, safety and efficacy of prescribed medication.


Including:

  • Liaising with doctors and nurses to resolve any queries arising from the screening process. Undertaking the final accuracy check on prescriptions dispensed by other pharmacy staff To provide managerial support and advice to the pharmacy technical staff and provide professional and clinical supervision according to need. To monitor activity and audit the quality of pharmacy operational services and take action as appropriate to improve the quality or develop the service. To co-ordinate and develop training induction programs for newly appointed staff in the pharmacy dispensary/stores/wards/CMHCs.


To provide enquiry led medicines information, providing clinically sound, evaluated information to a wide variety of complex enquiries from all grades of health care professionals and service users.

To be responsible for organising, coordinating & developing standard operating procedures for the pharmacy emergency on-call service for the Trust To participate in departmental clinical meetings.

To undertake any other relevant duties, as may be required by the Chief Pharmacist To be responsible for technical, operational and systems management of the instances of the pharmacy module of the Emishealth computer system, including, file maintenance, drug templates, financial reporting, general housekeeping, solving day to day problems, dealing with system crashes and providing technical support when required.

To liaise with the eMeds pharmacist, Emishealth and IT helpdesks as necessary to solve complex IT problems.


To ensure the accurate entry of all new drug requests onto the Emishealth pharmacy system and ensure drug files are updated and maintained as necessary.

To ensure all cost centres are updated as necessary, via the IT helpdesk & the eMeds configuration lead.

To be responsible for ensuring all pharmacy staff are trained to appropriate standards in the use of the eMeds system.

To provide timely information on the supply and cost of medicines to the finance department, chief pharmacist and clinicians as requested.

To be the Medicines Safety Officer for the Trust.

To take responsibility for medication safety issues for Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust as determined by the Trusts Medicines Management committee.

To be a member of the Trust Safe Use of Medicines Group (SUMG).

To ensure that relevant pharmaceutical incidents are reported in line with trust policy and remedial actions to reduce risk of recurrence are communicated and implemented.

To ensure prescribing, administration and dispensing errors are reported via Datix to the NRLS.

To manage the implementation of all medicines safety initiatives & safety alerts including those from local (SUMG), regional (ICB) & national organisations (such as NHS England, MHRA and DoH) across the Trust.

To arrange relevant departmental meetings that will enable staff to be brought up-to-date on current issues and to address staff development needs regarding medication safety.
