Join us as Head of Data in our Digital, Data and Information Technologies (DDIT) directorate.

Working with our Head of Digital, you'll improve data maturity and digital literacy across the organisation and build an engaged team to deliver our data strategy.


The role:

You'll provide strategic and technical leadership for the organisation on its journey to becoming insights driven.

This means engaging and inspiring SE colleagues, as well as other public sector partners and stakeholders, to improve performance - through strategy, people, process, data, and technology.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership that seeks change and improvement to reflect our ambition, purpose and values
  • Building a highperformance, professional and collaborative team
  • Delivering on Scottish Enterprise's vision to embed new data and analytics initiatives through data analysis and synthesis
  • Developing Scottish Enterprise's approach to data connectivity keeping it moving across key systems and capabilities within Scottish Enterprise, and across partners
  • Overseeing data operations including data foundations, governance quality and data management this includes governance of data standards, compliance, data, and information security
  • Making sure Scottish Enterprise systems are designed in accordance with our data strategy and architecture

Who we're looking for:

You're a technical leader who understands business priorities. And you have experience using data across an organisation to drive decision making.

You'll be able to galvanise people around your vision, through influence and insight, as SE moves to higher levels of data and digital maturity.


Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • Deep knowledge of best practices in data science techniques to tackle business and organisational challenges
  • Knowledge of the most appropriate tools to tell compelling and actionable stories with data
  • An ability to translate technical, abstract and complex ideas for a variety of audiences
  • An ability to communicate sensitive information tactfully, and mediate to resolve issues
  • Expertise across the Microsoft Azure stack and Microsoft BI
  • Significant understanding of data architecture and integration
  • Significant experience in data analytics and business intelligence platforms
  • Extensive experience managing a data and analytical delivery operation

Ideally, but not essentially, you'll also have:

  • Alternative techniques to combine data from different systems (ensuring good data quality)
  • Data Engineering within an AWS and Azure data warehouse environment
  • An ability to develop data strategies
  • An ability to build networks to leverage best practices, trends, and future challenges and opportunities
  • Extensive experience prioritising programmes against strategic business change programmes
  • Experience working across multiple agencies and organisation boundaries
  • Strong experience in data governance and quality
