What is Forestry England?


Forestry England (FE) looks after the nation's forests with the aim that everyone in England should feel connected to them.

For over 100 years, we have been growing, shaping and caring for over 1,500 of our nation's forests for the benefit and enjoyment of all, for this generation and the next.

We care for more land and trees than any other organisation in England. Shaping landscapes for people, wildlife, and timber.

We have built over 1,800 miles of walking, running and cycling trails, supplying England's largest amount of sustainably sourced timber, and conserving the homes of thousands of plants and animals.


Background to Yorkshire Forest District.


The Yorkshire Forest District Team comprises 74 members of staff responsible for managing the FE estate in Yorkshire Forest District, which covers 21,000ha, most of which is in protected landscapes, with 19,000ha in the National Park and 540ha in the Howardian Hills AONB.

In addition there are 280ha in the Tees Valley and the remainder is largely in the Vale of York.

The estate is predominantly woodland of varied character but also includes extensive tracts of open habitats such as moorland and heath.

These forests receive around 460 thousand visits by the public each year mainly for informal recreation such as walking and cycling.

We also host a number of significant motor sport and other large sporting events.

Job description:

Purpose of the job
This is a key role carrying out various administrative duties within the Business Support Team. The team consists of 8 staff who support business managers, customers, and stakeholders.

We require a team worker who is proactive, and has excellent communication, IT, and time management skills to ensure that we effectively achieve business objectives.


Key Work Areas

  • Play a key role in Finance Business Support, with particular emphasis on supporting our Civil Engineering function, as well as general finance support such as raising purchase orders, recording and processing invoices for payment, in line with Forestry England policy.
  • Fleet support ensuring the maintenance and use of vehicle, machinery and equipment (VME) is accurately managed and monitored across the District. Act as main point of contact for all VME related issues working in conjunction with Forester (VME). This includes monthly checks of fuel report, distribution and reordering of fuel cards, arrange for vehicles to be taken to garage for servicing etc, complete stocktake annually, hold spare vehicle keys.
  • As part of the business support team answer telephone calls, deal with post, book meeting rooms, and general reception enquiries. Provide a back up service for your colleagues in times of absence.
  • Managing shared inboxes in Microsoft Outlook.

Person specification:

Essential Criteria:

  • GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work within, and add value to a team
  • Evidence of working in an office or teambased environment, and of working with customers and stakeholders

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in a Finance support role
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Qualifications:
