This is an exciting and interesting senior leadership opportunity to drive forward the long-term strategic direction for all adult safeguarding related issues in Derby City.


The Derby Safeguarding Adults Board (DSAB) has a key role in ensuring that agencies collaborate to effectively safeguard adults across its area.

The statutory partners (Derby City Council, NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board and Derbyshire Constabulary) work together to deliver safeguarding arrangements that cover Derby.


Derby Safeguarding Adults Board (DSAB) is seeking a highly committed and experienced person to provide leadership, strategic vision and oversight.

They will challenge and hold to account the multi-agency board's effectiveness in meeting statutory requirements and coordinating local work to safeguard adults who require care and support.


This role requires resilience, enthusiasm, motivation, commitment and determination to drive forward this important agenda, bringing significant partnership board level experience to build credibility with a range of stakeholders.

It is anticipated that this role will be required to cover approximately 24 days per annum. The specific commitment required will be agreed as part of the appointment process.


To maintain the integrity of this appointment, applicants must not have any current affiliation with any of the agencies represented on the Partnership and must be able to demonstrate that they can undertake this role independently.

In the role of Derby Safeguarding Adults Board Independent Chair, here's an example of what you'll be doing to make an impact:
Ensuring that DSAB effectively discharges its responsibility to safeguard adults at risk as defined by the Care Act 2014.

To provide independent leadership and strategic vision, ensuring that the Board has an independent, objective and authoritative identity.

To Chair Derby Safeguarding Adults Board meetings.

To promote best practice in making safeguarding personal, leading a learning and improvement culture free from hindsight bias.

About You
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have...

  • Educated to degree level with a relevant academic and/or professional qualification in social care, health, education, policing or in an appropriate discipline.
  • Experience of chairing complex strategic meetings at a senior level and ability to chair in an efficient manner.
  • Experience of strategic quality assurance activity and driving forward improvement of services for adults.
  • Significant experience of working within the public or voluntary sector at a senior and strategic level to command respect within a multiagency committee of senior agency representatives.
  • Substantial experience of safeguarding work to enable wellgrounded contributions and to challenge where necessary to ensure good outcomes for adults.
  • Experience of resolving complex cases and strategic issues to ensure good outcomes for adults.
  • Knowledge of recent developments in the field of adults services, health or social care
  • Knowledge of legislation, policy and research in relation to safeguarding adults.
  • Knowledge of how to maintain effective safeguarding practice.
  • Knowledge of local, regional and national challenges and how these risks impact on safeguarding adults.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of supporting and promoting the health and wellbeing of vulnerable adults and prevention of harm or neglect.
  • Leadership skills in negotiation and facilitation in resolving issues across agencies.
  • Ability to facilitate clear decision making on key issues.
  • Excellent organisational abilities to ensure the smooth operation of the board.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to speak in public, sufficient to represen
