About the Role

Nature Communications is a leading multidisciplinary Open Access journal, publishing top-notch scientific research. To contribute to the success of this journal, we're seeking an expert in Structural biology, experimental and/or computational biophysics. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor for Structural Biology, Biochemistry, and Biophysics in the Biological Sciences division. This challenging role is located in London or US locations on a hybrid working schedule. The position is full-time and permanent.
Role Responsibilities:
- Handling original research papers and collaborating with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and managing peer review.
- Making well-founded editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts based on expert advice.
- Determining the representation of the subject in the journal.
- Liaising extensively with editors at other journals within the Nature family and with experts in the global scientific community.
- Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
- Commissioning and editing Reviews, as well as writing Editorials.
- A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to protein sciences or experimental and/or computational biophysics.
- Significant research experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- A solid understanding of recent trends and developments in the field is crucial.
- A strong passion for science and a hunger to expand your knowledge. You must demonstrate a wide interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your specialization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with fluency in English (written and spoken).
- The ability to evaluate the novelty, context, and implications of research submissions to the journal from various areas of this discipline.
- Keenness to travel, meet scientists globally, learn about them and their research, and help them understand our publishing criteria.
- Editorial experience is not a prerequisite.
