Job overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the top five leading children's hospitals in the world. PICU is a 17 bedded unit for Level 3 ICU patients. We offer intensive care for all specialties including oncology, neurology, metabolic & renal medicine, ENT, endocrinology and respiratory medicine. PICU is also the regional Neurosurgical ICU for North Thames. Patients come from all wards in the hospital & via emergency transport services such as CATS.

Our highly motivated and talented team of doctors and nurses are passionate about achieving our shared aim of delivering world-class care, putting the child first at all times. We are committed to the ongoing training and education of our nursing staff, involving our nurses in developing evidence-based care and innovative practice. Main duties of the job

The Lecturer Practitioner role would suit a PICU nurse who demonstrates both academic & clinical expertise. They will demonstrate personal success in MSc L7 education & have experience of providing this for others. They will be able to discriminate between academic L6 & L7 and thus, enable the students to achieve the higher-level academic skills they require. The successful candidate will invest time in educational preparation to harness innovative ideas, engage the students & develop teaching methods that facilitate deep learning. They will prepare learners for assessment via group discussions & 1:1 tutorials and demonstrate objectivity & fairness in the overall assessment process. They will also maintain oversight & management of the course, according to university regulations. They will organise academic staff & clinical placements & provide educational advice, as needed.

The successful candidate will be sensitive to the additional learning needs &/or challenging personal circumstances students might face. Equally, they will recognise those who have the potential to excel beyond the expected requirements. In each case, they will collaborate with the university & clinical teams to optimise their learning & wellbeing.
