Ffrancon Ward Emergency Gynaecology Unit (EGU) are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Health Care Support Worker to join their team.

You must have an interest in working within Women's health as this unit is busy, caring for patients with complications in early pregnancy and gynaecology conditions.

You will be part of a team of hard working and dedicated nursing, medical and administration staff, and on a daily basis you will be required to work in liaison with the team to ensure the delivery of safe, well organised and effective care ensuring a positive experience for patients and families who access our service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.


To undertake a range of care duties for patients and provide support functions within the Ffrancon Emergency Gynaecology Unit (EGU) under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

To record patient information and report patient condition to a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

To undertake a full range of manual, housekeeping and clerical duties as required.

  • Assist the Registered Nurse/Midwife in delivering a high standard of holistic patient care, ensuring that the patients dignity and equality is maintained at all times in line with organisational requirements.
  • Act as a chaperone for patients prior to, during and following clinical procedures or examinations in accordance with the Chaperone policy.
  • Following appropriate training measure patient's weight/height and perform routine urine testing and recording of blood pressure/pulse/temperature reporting results to Registered Nurse/Midwife in charge.
  • Check accuracy of patient demographic details on attendance at clinic. Where changes are identified, inform the Nurse in Charge and Clinic clerk in order that records can be updated.
  • Taking accurate telephone messages. Laboratory results should always be read back to the technician who will confirm that it is correct.
  • Being aware of the danger of divulging information to a caller and knowing when to refer the call to a senior member of staff.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • To undertake venepuncture and cannulation.
