THE ROLE
We are recruiting for an Econometric Analyst within the regulatory finance team based in Horley, reporting to the Econometric Manager.
The Econometric Analyst role will provide critical support for the review and assessment of the Regulatory benchmarkingprocess as we build up our evidence base and work towards the next price control period.
Key responsibilities will include;- Using and evaluating Ofgem's econometric analysis for benchmarking GDN's cost efficiency.
- Developing the econometric model in a manner that improves the accuracy of the econometric analysis and provide detailed supporting evidence of why such changes are relevant. This will include the assessment of alternative modelling approaches.
- Adapting the models for internal research and assessment purposes, such as benchmarking at depot level and for wider business use.
- Being able to interpret the analysis and identify areas of strength and weakness which can subsequently be used by senior management to make strategic business decisions.
- Proactively analyse and research some of SGNs unique factors such as regional costs, real price effects, productivity and determine how these continue to impact our cost assessment.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is able to provide accurate and robust analytical, statistical and modelling support to senior management for the purposes of understanding the results of internal and external benchmarking of SGN's activities.
- Minimum 1year practical experience working within an econometric modelling role
- Excellent numerical skills with advanced Excel skills
- An understanding of the Stata modelling software or alternative
- Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to use statistical techniques and benchmark performance
- The ability to coordinate and effectively communicate with working groups within SGN to analyse benchmarking results
- Reasonable understanding of the SGN business to interpret results and alternative cost drivers
- Knowledge of UK Regulatory process and comparative analysis used by regulators desirable
- The ability to work effectively as part of a small team
- Ideally educated to a degree level or have demonstrated that they can work with the complex financial concepts
