Job summary

We are currently looking to appoint to two vacancies in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology team. The appointments are to commence in August 2024 for a period of 12 months. The posts do not award a National Training Number. As these posts are not recognised as 'training posts', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of these posts are equivalent to FY2/ST1 level.

Main duties of the job

A typical working week will consist of a combination of the below duties:

Obstetric on call and ward duties

Gynaecology on call and ward duties

Development

Postgraduate Teaching

All hospitals in the rotation work shift patterns for emergency work

Job description

Job responsibilities

This list is aimed at covering the majority of duties:

1. Supervise the day-to-day management of in-patients.

2. Liaise between Nurses, Midwives, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.

3. Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled

4. Take part in rostered labour ward duties and gynaecological emergency work.

5. Complete discharge summaries and file radiology and lab results.

6. Dictate discharge summaries.

7. Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.

8. Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations.

9. Teach medical students as directed.

10. Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.

11. Attend induction in each hospital or new department.

12. Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise by the date of application ALS (or equivalent) Basic Medical Degree

Clinical experience

Essential

Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems Interest in Obstetrics & Gynaecology 12 months clinical experience post-qualification (full time equivalent) Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient Minimum 1 month experience in the NHS Minimum 3 months experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Desirable

24 months clinical experience post-qualification (full time equivalent) Minimum 4 months experience in the NHS

Teaching and training

Essential

Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors

Desirable

To have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups of staff

Continuous Professional Development

Essential

Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
