About the school:

Our SEMH school located in Westminster is seeking an Aspiring Youth Justice Officer to join our team.

We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for students who have special educational needs (SEN) and have been involved in the justice system.

As an Aspiring Youth Justice Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting students' rehabilitation and reintegration into society.


Role Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate individual to join our team as an Aspiring Youth Justice Officer.

This role is ideally suited to someone who is interested in the intersection of education, mental health, and criminal justice, and is eager to make a positive impact on young lives.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop trusting relationships with pupils, promoting a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to create individual learning and development plans.
  • Intervene in instances of challenging behaviour to deescalate conflicts and ensure the safety of all students.
  • Facilitate restorative justice practices, promoting empathy, accountability, and reconciliation.
  • Assist in delivering the school's curriculum, particularly regarding social and emotional learning.
  • Maintain meticulous records of students' progress, behaviours, and interventions.
  • Act as a liaison between the school, families, and external agencies such as local Youth Offending Teams.

Requirements:

  • A passion for working with young people with SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of the youth justice system or willingness to learn.
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally those with SEMH needs (this could be in a volunteering, educational, or care setting).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging behaviours.
  • An understanding of child safeguarding and welfare responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A degree in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice) is desirable but not essential.
