Role Purpose:

Orion Electrotech is excited to collaborate with a continuously expanding manufacturing firm that specializes in Energy solutions across various markets. They are currently seeking an experienced Transformer Design Manager to join their team.

The Transformer Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing all transformer-based technologies, ensuring adherence to global standards, technical specifications, shop floor designs, materials specification, and the transformer build and testing process.

This role will involve close collaboration with manufacturing sites to uphold consistent design quality throughout all locations and products. The individual will also liaise with the sales team, mechanical design, and purchasing manager to accurately determine costs and plan future orders.

The candidate should work independently and facilitate smooth communication between the Sheffield and Bromsgrove sites regarding transformer integration in projects, offering electrical oversight and technical support to the manufacturing and testing teams.

Additionally, this role entails providing active support to the team to achieve project and personal targets efficiently.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supervising design projects from inception to completion, ensuring clarity on workflow and priorities within the team.
  • Collaborating with the sales team to drive business development and high-level designs for new markets/products/variants.
  • Managing performance of mechanical and electrical design engineering staff.
  • Establishing and enhancing the design process while aligning it with internal and external sales.
  • Releasing design documents with formal version control for universal tracking.
  • Developing new products and adapting existing ones for new markets.
  • Assisting the test team to ensure compliance with design limits during factory acceptance tests.
  • Ensuring adherence to global market standards such as CE/UL.
  • Serving as the design authority for all transformer technologies.
  • Compiling and controlling O&M documentation for the product portfolio.

Qualifications
Essential:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Desirable:
Experiences

Essential:
Designing a variety of transformer-related products including reactors, LV, HV, mining, Amorphous, dry type, oil-filled.
Handling designs from 50VA to 10MVA range.
Knowledge of electrical systems and transformer manufacturing processes.
Awareness of mechanical design impact on clients.

Desirable:
Experience in OEM and client-side design is preferable.
Strong communication skills with senior reporting responsibilities.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Competencies

Essential:
Proficiency in Power Transformers and all related UK standards
