The Council collects almost 120,000 refuse and recycling containers each week, through a team of around 35 drivers and loaders, operating a fleet of 15 vehicles.

We are looking for an energetic, organised self-starter who can work within a team and communicate excellently to our operational staff and management.
- Delivering induction and annual refresher training to drivers and operatives, keeping records and ensuring training is up to date.
- Reviewing and updating risk assessments and safe systems of work, for review by line management.
- Carrying out and recording compliance checks (primarily through onboard vehicle CCTV systems) on the work of our drivers and operatives, and their vehicles, including investigations and followup actions.
- Monitoring staff welfare through accident, incident and near miss data.
- Carrying out a regular programme of toolbox talks.
In addition you will be prepared to:
- Assist the Waste Services Supervisor with the morning set-out of crews.
- Provide supervisory cover, including morning crew setout, from time to time at the request of line management.
- Occasionally drive LGV waste collection vehicles and assist with collections, at the request of line management to cover operational staff absences.
The role will require you primarily to work from 5.30am each day, although there may be occasional need for flexibility.
You will help the supervisory team to ensure that collections are made safely, legally and to agreed timescales and quality standards.
Ideally you will hold IOSH Managing Safely certificate (fully-paid for training can be provided if not already held).You must hold a valid Category C driver's licence and Driver CPC card qualifying you to drive our 26-tonne rigid refuse and recycling collection vehicles.
Much of your work will be based at our operational depot, but you must be prepared to work - and train staff - outdoors when necessary.
