An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Milton Keynes CAMHS LIST Team based at Eaglestone Health Centre in Milton Keynes.

The role works closely with the wider multi disciplinary team supporting children and young people alongside their allocated clinicians within the Crisis and Home Treatment pathway. Within this role the post holder will be expected to work autonomously under the guidance of a clinical supervisor to support children and young people with a variety of difficulties which include anxiety, low mood and low self esteem. The post holder will, on a rota basis, provide support for a 7 day crisis and home treatment service for young people experiencing mental health problems in the Milton Keynes area. The post will be based within MKUH and the post holder will be expected to maintain the close links with the Hospital, CAMHS Clinicians, Social services and other Stakeholders.

In return we offer a wide variety of training and development opportunities using the trusts Learning and Development Zone resource, in addition to this the service is fortunate to have access to training opportunities across Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes. The post holder will receive regular supervision and an opportunity to work closely with a multi disciplinary team consisting of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Family Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers and an Art Therapist.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out initial assessments of children and young people presenting in the A&E Department and on the wards of Milton Keynes General Hospital in mental health crisis, following an overdose, psychosis, deliberate self-harm or suicidal ideation.

The focus will be on children and young people presenting at Emergency Department(ED) and on the medical wards, ensuring effective psycho-social assessment, risk assessment and discharge planning including referral to appropriate services and sign posting to relevant third sector partners.

The post holder will also liaise with colleagues and provide education, support and advice to staff within general hospital setting on a range of areas aimed at improving their understanding and management of mental health and self-harm.

The post holder will undertake home support to avoid admission to hospital or to minimise length of time spent in hospital by providing an intensive community package of immediate post-discharge support to children/young people.

The post will include practice development and ensuring high quality client centred care is delivered. The post holder will work with senior colleagues within the team to maintain high standards of care and practice to improve client care in the specialist CAMHS service. The post holder will be a highly visible presence in clinical practice, with support and supervision from Clinical Nurse Specialists within the team and be accessible to clients and their families.
