Job Description

Job title: Psychotherapist/Counsellor

Responsible to: Head of Clinical Service

Location: 1 day (Thursday) at our premises in Sheffield, and 1 day (Friday or 2 evenings) remote.

Role Purpose

To deliver 1:1 therapy to women who have experienced abuse and trauma, including both short and long-term therapy.

Key Responsibilities

To hold a clinical caseload of 4 - 5 clients per day

To evaluate and respond to risks and safeguard appropriately

To work within the BACP or UKCP code of ethics

To keep records and information for the purpose of internal and external monitoring and evaluation, including records of client contact, and provide information and monitoring and evaluation reports as required

To carry out administrative duties relating to the post

Additional Responsibilities

To contribute to the service: expertise, knowledge and experience of working with women who are survivors of abuse and trauma, including sexual abuse, domestic abuse, emotional neglect, trafficking, rape and torture.

As a clinical team member, to support the team's overall work, including supporting service user events and group activities as required.

Contribute to the development of new projects and funding applications as appropriate.

Actively engage with other team members and work constructively with colleagues and managers in all aspects of the work, maintaining professional boundaries.

To support other staff and volunteers with organisational change.

Participate fully in the agreed support structures for the post, including line management supervision, external/ in-house supervision, training events, and appraisal, and contribute positively and flexibly within the team.

As appropriate, establish and maintain positive networks and collaborative partnerships with local voluntary and community groups and statutory and private sector agencies.

Conduct all work within statutory requirements, professional guidance, and Saffron Sheffield policies and procedures, e.g., risk management, safeguarding, code of ethics, and health and safety.

Share information with professionals/agencies within the boundaries of the Data Protection Act and Saffron Sheffield confidentiality policy.

Work at all times with respect and sensitivity to the needs of service users and volunteers, ensuring they are listened to and that any action required is taken.

To work in a way which promotes the aims and objectives of Saffron Sheffield.

Contribute to the review and development of Saffron Sheffield policies and practices.

To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and purpose of the job as may be determined between the postholder and the Head of Clinical Service.

To keep records and information for the purpose of internal and external monitoring and evaluation, including records of client contact, and provide information and monitoring and evaluation reports as required.

Carry out relevant administrative requirements for the post.

Where appropriate, staff may be asked to work outside their usual working hours, for which time off in lieu will be given.

Person Specification

Application/ Interview

Qualifications

Recognised qualification in counselling (Level 4 minimum or equivalent).

Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), chartered by/registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or similar.

Trauma-related qualification.

Qualification in delivering telephone or video counselling.

Evidence of significant experience delivering 1:1 therapy to women who have experienced abuse and trauma.

Evidence of ongoing relevant CPD.

Experience with and commitment to outcomes monitoring, using clinical scales and assessment tools, for the benefit of clients and service development.

Experience in and commitment to carrying out both long and short-term therapeutic work with regard to client need and service capacity.

Experience of assessment work.

Experience in group work.

Experience working in the voluntary or community sector.

Experience of service user involvement.

Experience working remotely.

Ability to work with women from all backgrounds.

Ability to manage workload independently and efficiently.

Good communication skills, verbal and written.

IT skills, including e-mail, internet and word processing skills.

Ability to learn new systems processes and to use new software.

Ability to practice self-care.

Understanding of funding bids and delivery of charitably funded work.

Knowledge of mental health services and support agencies.
