Head of PMO Manager

As the Head of PMO you will


Be responsible for the growth and development of the team and successful delivery of projects on behalf of our customers and across the organisation.


  • Support project managers and project coordinators within the organisation to deliver their roles effectively.
  • Responsible for the growth and development of the team and implementation of best practice processes
  • Control the organisation's portfolio activity by operating and maturing an effective PMO
  • Ensuring the PMO provides a best practice service to support all IT projects, programmes and delivery activities to deliver to time, quality and cost constraints through professional assurance, support and adherence to our clients Project Delivery Lifecycle.
  • Overseeing operational management of the function
  • Driving continuous improvement across all delivery Programmes and Projects
  • Evolving processes alongside the needs of the organisation
  • Establishing and reporting on KPIs and reporting to the Board.
  • Assist with wider elements of the governance team such as strategic planning, finance, resource management and assurance.


To be successful in this role you will have experience leading in a PMO environment ideally using a variety of project methodologies including agile and waterfall.

Change management experience is essential as well as excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Significant experience of leading Project and Programme managers successfully in a large organisation as either a PMO Manager, IT Operational Lead, Programme / Delivery Lead or equivalent
  • Maintaining and updating an appropriate delivery governance structure.
  • Developing the delivery capacity management and programme plans in conjunction with the delivery teams, highlighting constraints and advising on potential resolutions.
  • Experience of developing and implementing effective portfolio, project and programme standards and strategies that have had a positive impact on change delivery
  • Experience of effectively leading, managing, motivating and developing teams to improve effectiveness
  • Experience of managing and overseeing multiple projects and programmes, identifying and managing opportunities, risks and issues, taking initiative whilst also working with formal change governance groups to enhance delivery
  • Significant experience of complex problem solving, making recommendations and taking into consideration variables to achieve the desired outcomes
  • Ability to quickly assimilate knowledge from outside own area of expertise.
  • Experience of successful resource management including planning, forecasting, monitoring and reviewing resources
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential for the role
