Further Information An exciting opportunity has arisen We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us as a Trainee Trading Standards & Licensing Officer here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. The successful candidate will undertake the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional apprenticeship whilst undertaking additional learning and on the job training, to become a qualified Trading Standards and Licensing Officer.

The Trading Standards and Licensing Services carries out an important regulatory function, undertaking a range of duties to help ensure a safe and fair trading environment and supporting businesses within our borough to maintain high standards in order to protect both members of the public and reputable businesses. Working alongside a small team of Trading Standards and Licensing professionals you will learn to provide advice and guidance to both consumers and businesses on their rights and responsibilities, investigate cases of unfair trading or illegal business activity, deal with licensing applications and enquiries, and represent the Council at Committee Meetings and in Court as required. This role will require some out of hours work on evenings and weekends and the ability to or willingness to work towards independent travel around the borough (via car, bus or other modes of transport) would be essential.

You will be provided with all the training and support you need to be a success. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications, personal attributes, skills and behaviours: 3 x A-Levels Grade C or above (or equivalent Level 3 qualifications – e.g. BTECs) (Predicted Grade or Obtained) Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Obtained) which must include English Language & Maths at Grade C / 4 or above Communication skills - listening, spoken and written. ICT Skills - Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) Team player who is not afraid to try something new. Commitment to own personal and professional development. SALARY: Starting salary for this role is £27,334p.a. This apprenticeship is subject to annual salary/career progression upon successful completion of each apprenticeship year, being on target with your learning, and gaining the relevant work experience.

CONTRACT DURATION: 41 months
