We are a busy Children's Outpatient Department across various sites at East Lancashire Hospitals, including Burnley General Hospital and Royal Blackburn Hospital.


To assist the Paediatric Outpatient Team by providing a high-quality service within the outpatient setting, ensuring the smooth running of outpatient clinics, meeting the needs of the children and their families, responsible for liaising with appropriate staff.


Established in 2003 East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) is a large integrated health care organisation providing high quality acute secondary healthcare for the people of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

We currently provide high quality services and treat over 700,000 patients a year from the most serious of emergencies to planned operations and procedures.

Provide an efficient and quality reception service for all visitors when required to do so and promote a welcoming environment.

Providing a non-judgmental approach in this sensitive area of work.

Maintain stock levels of all relevant forms/information leaflets etc. within the clinic rooms


Answer the telephone in a courteous manner, dealing with queries, taking messages and referring calls to the appropriate person as necessary in accordance with guidelines of confidentiality.

Ensure the safety of patient records and information at all times in this sensitive area of work.

Assist with general clerical duties, photocopying as required.

Maintain confidentiality. To follow written protocols when dealing face to face / telephone liaison with patients.

Communicates effectively and appropriately when dealing with conflicts arising within the Outpatient department.

To be aware of and respect the differences within cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds.

To promote health and wellbeing for the children and their families.

Recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice and support as necessary.

To be aware of the signs and symptoms of illness in children and act accordingly.

Ensure that all equipment and toys meet safety standards


Ensure when exposed to bodily fluid, that adequate precautions are taken to minimise the risk of cross infection in related to the safe disposal of bodily fluids.

Assist with the smooth running of the clinics to enable the service to be effective.

Provide reassurance support to children and carers/parents.

To obtain children's growth measurements and to record these within the medical records.
