Role responsibilities

As a Carriage Cleaner, your primary responsibility is to ensure our trains are clean and well-presented for customers. This involves interior and exterior train cleaning, focusing particularly on underframe cleaning. The role demands physical exertion and may require working outdoors in various weather conditions.

The position encompasses diverse shifts, including permanent nights, a mix of days and nights, or permanent days, which necessitates a flexible mindset. In addition to train cleaning, you will be tasked with Depot Cleaning duties as needed. Roles include but are not restricted to:

  • Ensure consistent cleaning standards in the depot and assist with designated tasks as directed by management, covering staff facilities and Shed Cleaning duties.
  • Proper use and maintenance of provided PPE following relevant safety protocols, ensuring full PPE compliance at all times for you and your colleagues.
  • Prioritize own safety and that of others, adhering to personalized rulebooks and local instructions diligently.
  • Adhere to the correct sign-off process for work completion, either digitally or through paper documentation.
  • Stay updated on safety briefs & policies changes and adhere to Transport for Wales Rail cleaning standards.

Who we're looking for

  • Experience in the rail industry or safety-critical environment.
  • Skilled cleaner with a good grasp of COSSH regulations.
  • Team player, adept in communication, and flexible in work approach.
  • Capable of understanding and interpreting risk assessments, safety briefings, and similar documents.
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks.

Welsh Language Skills

While Welsh language proficiency would be an asset, it is not mandatory for this role. Transport for Wales encourages its employees to enhance their Welsh language skills through various means like online learning, classroom courses, and support for attending local community courses.
