Telford, Telford and Wrekin, United Kingdom Telford & Wrekin Council Full time

37 hours per week.

Soulbury terms

Fixed Term Contract until August 2025.

Two vacancies.

Exciting opportunities have arisen for two Assistant Educational Psychologists to join our dynamic, friendly and supportive Educational Psychology team, dedicated to providing a high-quality EP service to our children, young people, families and schools.

Successful candidates will be joining a creative and highly skilled team that is well-regarded and valued by schools and other strategic partners and services across Telford & Wrekin. You will benefit from a supportive senior leadership team committed to promoting the wellbeing of staff and work-life balance, ongoing training and development and practising in ways that are equitable, anti-racist and culturally responsive. We have strong links with the Doctoral training courses and are committed to supporting Trainee Educational Psychologists on placement.

Our team operates within the framework of a consultation model with an emphasis on solution-focused, person-centred and strengths-based practice. Our traded work with schools is varied and we have extended the EPS into the community through exciting working partnerships with Health and Social Care, allowing us to work directly with families through our award-winning collaboration with our Parent Carer Forum 'PODs' and alongside Strengthening Families colleagues supporting children and families to overcome barriers to attendance. As a team, we actively seek new and innovative ways of working to support young people and their families.

You will be supporting our team of Educational Psychologists in delivering traded work to schools though a range of activities such as observation, consultation and implementation of intervention strategies. You will also support the Educational Psychology Service with delivery on a range of Local Authority project work our psychologists are involved in, including Early Years work, whole school emotional health and wellbeing work, ELSA training and support, SCERTS-informed observation, Emotion Coaching, community based parent support groups and supporting delivery of our Autism Strategy.

You will be required to have a degree in psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society. You will also need to demonstrate relevant experience working with children and young people to promote wellbeing and progress, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of linking psychological theory and approaches to working with children and their families, with a particular focus on early childhood development and parent support. In addition, you will need to have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills along with knowledge of the context in which psychological services, schools and settings work. We encourage candidates to bring and share their understanding of anti-oppressive EP practices.

This post will provide an excellent opportunity, and highly relevant experience, for any candidates considering a career in Educational Psychology and an application for the professional doctorate courses.
