You will operate across Exeter and South Devon, working from the office with opportunities for flexible arrangements. The role involves visiting young individuals in their homes or community settings.

Main Duties of the Job

Working within the Corporate Parenting Service, you will closely collaborate with Personal Advisors to identify and assist young people who have faced trauma but may not meet the criteria for statutory mental health services or are in a transitional phase. Your focus will be on recognizing needs and fostering recovery from trauma through relational practices. The role entails supporting a small group of young individuals, providing consultation, group supervision, and advocating for their access to community and clinical support.

You should be a systemic practitioner, with a clinical background in mental health services such as psychology, family therapy, nursing, or Social Work. Understanding corporate parenting responsibilities and possessing skills to aid in trauma recovery are essential. Join a service that is effectively managed and striving for positive change.

Job DescriptionJob Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

This role focuses on aiding recovery from trauma and enhancing the mental health of young individuals aged 16-25 with care experience. It is a two-year fixed term position intended to demonstrate the effectiveness of co-location and partnership in bettering outcomes for care experienced youths.

Devon County Council's recognition of care experienced as a designated characteristic underscores the commitment to improving results for these individuals. The posts aim to offer a responsive and creative approach to supporting young people during their transition to adulthood.

Within the Corporate Parenting Service, post holders will collaborate with Personal Advisors to assist young people with emerging emotional and mental health needs. Emphasis will be placed on promoting recovery from adverse childhood experiences and trauma through relational and restorative practices.

The role requires critical thinking, compassion, and expert care in dealing with trauma. Effective communication and collaboration with the corporate parenting teams are essential, along with providing clinical supervision and leadership as needed.

Applicants should be systemic practitioners with a background in mental health services and the ability to provide professional advice and advocacy to enhance access to community mental health services. Supporting a small group of young individuals directly and providing guidance and supervision to Personal Advisors are key responsibilities.

Understanding relevant legislation and being an advocate for high standards in corporate parenting are also vital.

Post holders will act as leaders in promoting good practice, educating on effective interventions, and bridging the gap between leaving care services and adult mental health services for better support provision.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification in mental health, psychology, nursing, or Social Work.

Desirable

  • Additional training in specialized areas of systemic practice.

Experience

Essential

  • A systemic practitioner with a professional background in adult mental health services, CAMHs, nursing, or Social Work in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in working with individuals with trauma histories, attachment insecurity, and emotional/behavioral challenges.
  • Good knowledge of attachment theory and trauma-recovery approaches to enhance psychological wellbeing.
  • Experience in using attachment and trauma recovery approaches for consultation and training.
  • Applying holistic and creative approaches to person-centered and restorative support.

Desirable

  • Experience in child protection or working with vulnerable adolescents and families.
  • Proficiency in writing assessments.
  • Understanding of restorative and strengths-based risk assessment and planning.
  • Familiarity with Local Authority Children's Services operations and structures.
  • Knowledge and experience in multi-agency teamwork, using Multi systemic Therapy informed approaches.
