Job summary:


Forest Services is part of the Forestry Commission working to put in place the conditions that enable landowners and land managers, business, civil society organisations and local communities to protect, improve and expand the entire woodland resource in England.


The National Grants and Regulations Team is part of Forest Services and has lead responsibility for the operations of forestry regulations such as felling licenses, and grant support for privately owned woodlands; the Compliance Team is part of this wider team.


The Compliance Team operates in a functional way so that can respond quickly to evolving business needs and provides a framework of controls that ensures FC grant schemes operate in a compliant way.

It identifies risks that grant management teams face and advises on how to avoid or address them.


The compliance team lead on counter fraud and error and support the operational delivery teams to be in compliance with Government Functional Standards, and other regulations.

This post will require weekly travel to Bristol and therefore our National Office is the preferred location.

Job description:

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Effectively support the Compliance Team with the day-to-day administration of its key tasks: planning meetings, managing external mailboxes and supporting training events.
  • Work with team members and the grant teams and the Operational Delivery Teams to ensure a high quality of service from the compliance team

KEY WORK AREAS:

  • Provide administrative support to the Compliance Team in a variety of tasks that ensures the management of grant schemes meets with regulatory requirements
  • Review the payment/repayment system administered by the Rural Payment Agency keeping the Operational Delivery Team up to date of any amendments
  • Monitor the Compliance Mailbox, answering queries, logging appeals and Force Majeure Requests and actioning audit data requests
  • Support the Operational Delivery Team by carrying out Compliance Checks prior to payment
  • Set up meetings, create agendas for meetings, or coordinating training events
  • Create mail merges for both planned and ad hoc exercises

Person specification:

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience of delivering tasks across multiple processes and projects
  • Confident in working with numerical and financial data to spot gaps and errors, preferably through relevant experience
  • Proficient user of MS Office suite of tools
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs/Standard Grades or equivalent (A-C Passes) including English, Maths or English Language is required and/or 3 years plus experience of working in an administrative post
