The Opportunity


At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are building two new nuclear reactors, providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, the success of HPC will require the continuous professional development of the workforce.


As a
Mechanical Instructor, you will form part of the Nuclear Skills Alliance (NSA), and once qualified you will be responsible for the development and delivery of mechanical instruction and training.


In your role, you will be using both classroom and simulated environments to ensure accuracy of material, adherence to the training standards / procedures, and excellence in quality of delivery.

Travel to deliver fleet-wide training is required, to ensure personnel across Nuclear New Build and Nuclear Operations have the required knowledge to carry out their roles to a high level.


Previous experience in an instructor or training role is advantageous - but not essential as full training will be provided.

What you'll be doing

  • Undertaking Fleet Certified Instructor (FCI) training within 2 years.
  • Developing and delivering Mechanical related training material.
  • Delivering training in classroom and plant simulator environments, as well as providing coaching and mentoring of trainees to expedite learning.
  • Acting as course coordinator/lead an being accountable for your training areas.
  • Ensuring company values, safety and OpEx are embedded throughout the training, training material and lesson plans.
  • Communicating with line managers for the successful development of competence within your staff.
  • Maintaining relationships with both stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts for development of material.
  • Communicating with external contractors if required, to provide training support services.
  • Fully contributing to the business plan of the NSA and NNB in support of achievement of our company organisational goals

Who you are

Your background may include some of the following:

  • Experience in a Mechanical related discipline.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with experience in customer and stakeholder relations.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team with strong mentoring and influencing skills.
  • Ability to identify, analyse and solve technical problems.
  • Knowledge of training processes and experience of the delivery of high quality technical / practical training.
  • Knowledge of modern learning methods and media and experience of bringing these in the development and delivery of training.
  • Holder of a recognised teaching/training qualification is desirable.
  • Good understanding of the key aspects of nuclear power plant systems and operation is desirable.
