UK Jewish Film is looking to recruit a part-time educator (1.5 days per week; freelance ) to expand our current education programming by developing and delivering film-based education projects with a specific focus on schools and colleges in Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester.


ABOUT

Our starting point is that film is a uniquely accessible medium for young people, with the power to connect emotionally and to build empathy.

Our educators and workshop leaders are unashamedly, outwardly facing Jewish and prioritise working in areas where antisemitism has been reported.

All our programmes centre on films representing Jewish experiences – we educate about the complexity of Jewish identity through film and about film.

These on-screen Jewish stories open conversations, presenting characters in (and perspectives on) a range of situations and contexts. We focus on developing critical viewers with skills to challenge stereotypes and deconstruct moving image texts.

The aims of our programmes are:
To combat racism and antisemitism ;
To create better awareness of British-Jewish heritage and culture .

ROLE
Working with the Education Manager, the successful candidate will:
Build relationships with schools, FE colleges and 6 th forms in Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester;
Develop and update new film-based content for both online and face to face education programming;
Deliver face to face education programmes to participants to support institution's diversity, enrichment offer, teaching of fundamental British values and promoting active citizens, including teacher training;
Contribute to evaluation reports on programme delivery;
Reach out to advisory teachers for RE in SACREs [Standing Advisory Council Religious Education] in Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester to build programmes into locally agreed RE Curriculum;
Offer, where appropriate, workshops to support 6 th form students developing Extended Project Qualification [EPQ] sparked by UK Jewish Film content;

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualified teacher status;
At least 3 years secondary school teaching experience in challenging environments;
Experience of curriculum development in one or more of these subjects: English, Media Studies, Film Studies, Citizenship, Religious Education, History;
Strong communication skills with excellent attention to detail;
Good knowledge, experience and understanding of the diversity of Jewish life in Britain.
