You will be provided access to our senior leaders across the business, the ability to help shape the future strategy of HSBC and guide and support our clients on their transition journeys.

The Global Head of Sustainable Transport will play a key role in helping the Bank and its customers around the world transform to a Net Zero future. The role will have a particular focus on client/customer-facing engagement, developing opportunities to transition road transport and auto manufacturing, aviation, shipping and rail, to electric and clean fuels and helping to align HSBC's portfolio of financed emissions to Net Zero by 2050, at the latest. The role holder will help shape HSBC's net-zero strategy globally, leveraging HSBC's capital and networks to shape and advance the transition to a net zero future.

Role responsibilities:

  • Act as a "go-to" senior expert for HSBC on transition pathways for road, aviation, shipping and rail sectors, helping to shape and deliver the bank's net zero strategy.
  • Shape and execute the work of the Group Head of Climate Transition, Chief Sustainability Officer and the Global Sustainability Function, working with an international team of experts, driving delivery in the regions.
  • Support the bank's external engagement on sustainable transport with regulators, central banks and governments, think tanks, NGOs and academia.
  • Help build new capabilities to incorporate transition into credit risk for the auto sector, airlines, aircraft owners and manufacturers and shipping companies working with the Risk Function.
  • Use expertise to upskill HSBC's front-line bankers on low-carbon technology and decarbonisation pathways for the transport sector, working closely with Group HR - Learning and Development, and Sustainability Leads in Global Businesses and Functions.
  • Provide expert input to the bank's climate analytics and climate modelling work, including the financed emissions and target setting within the Climate Aligned Finance programme

Requirements

  • Familiarity with a range of standards and frameworks, including the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net-Zero (GFANZ), Sustainable Markets Initiative's Financial Services Taskforce (FSTF) and the United Nations Environment Program Net-zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) as well as major net-zero energy scenarios including the International Energy Agency Net-Zero Emissions Scenario (NZE), and BloombergNEF's New Energy Outlook (NEO), among others.
  • Ideally, previous experience in sector-relevant transactions, project finance or capital markets. Work experience in Asia or the Middle East is an advantage.
  • Professional network across one or more transport sectors, including auto manufacturers, aviation and shipping
