Head of Fire Safety

Belmont Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Head of Fire Safety for an initial 3-6 month temporary contract located in Wakefield.
This full-time position requires 37 hours of work per week, from Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with fire safety legislative requirements by creating and reviewing essential records and reports, such as the Fire Risk Management Strategy, fire safety policy, technical guidance, fire strategies, and Contractors Fire Code, aligning with the BSI 9997 standard for Fire Safety Management.
- Offer expert advice on fire safety to all council services.
- Handle complex information related to fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and provide guidance on fire safety best practices.
- Establish and oversee systems and resources for auditing and monitoring life safety fire systems, organizing fire safety staff, conducting training, inspections, and fire risk assessments.
- Develop and deliver Fire safety training programs for all staff to meet statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with Council colleagues to implement service changes, governance procedures, and assurance protocols to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with Emergency Planning, Corporate Health and Safety teams, and external organizations to create, implement, and review fire emergency plans.
- Advise the Service Director on fire safety legislation interpretation and stay informed about government guidelines for fire safety in Council premises.
- Conduct safety audits with staff members, contribute to reports on fire precautions' conditions, and support Property Compliance and Health and Safety teams.
- Identify, assess, and manage fire risks in Council premises beyond the Fire Risk Assessment program, providing recommendations for fire safety improvements.
- Monitor maintenance of firefighting equipment, fire safety signs, and notices to ensure compliance and address any gaps in maintenance.
- Support council managers in ensuring that contractors on council premises uphold fire safety measures.
Requirements:
- Membership in the Institution of Fire Engineers or Institute of Fire Safety Managers.
- Qualification in fire prevention or fire safety, such as the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent level 4 RQF accredited fire risk assessments.
