We are looking for an Apprentice Grounds person to join our busy Grounds team. The successful applicant will complete a work-based Greenkeepers Level 2 certificate and be required to complete weekly online coursework. Additional training opportunities during the apprenticeship will be available.

The role is varied; duties would include maintaining the College sports pitches, golf course & amenity areas. You will gain experience in tending ornamental areas, planting, pruning, general plant care and using various horticultural machines. A fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in horticulture who enjoys working outdoors.

The following duties are examples of what the Apprentice Groundsperson may be required to undertake however, this list is not exhaustive and a degree of flexibility is expected in the performance of these duties:

• Maintenance of playing fields/College sports pitches
• Maintenance of golf course & amenity areas
• Maintenance of all areas of the College grounds including trees, borders, Headmaster's garden and all fencing
• Ensuring grounds, including all road and hardstanding areas are kept up to a high standard
• Ensure that Health & Safety standards are always met
• Other duties as directed by the Head Groundsman or Deputy Groundsman.

Hours of work
Your normal hours of work are average 37.5 per week. 40 hours in the summer, 32.5 in the winter.

Your hours of work include a morning break of 15 minutes and an afternoon break of 15 minutes (summertime only); plus 1-hour unpaid lunch break.

Term time meals are provided.

Some occasional weekend work may be required. Times may vary depending on the season but this will be discussed at interview.

You will be paid national minimum apprentice wage for your age. This will be reviewed throughout the programme.
