Barts Health NHS Trust are currently looking for a Fire Safety Officer to join Bank to join their friendly team.


The Fire Safety Advisors acts as a focus for all fire safety matters in the organisation with accountability for fire safety matters reporting up to the Head of Fire Safety via the Associate Director of Estates and Facilities Management.


The post holder will ensure that the Trust complies with all aspects of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) legislation and will work closely with all relevant parties within the hospital and externally to ensure the provision of a fire safe environment for patients/staff/visitors and to facilitate sustained care and well-being in relation to fire safety.


Main Duties

  • Act as the direct contact with the London Fire Brigade LFB, in relation to fire safety matters and information for the benefit of operational firefighting.
  • Work with all members of the Trust to ensure a safe and healthy environment (fire) for the Trust to meet its responsibilities
- provide and receive complex information regarding fire safety legislation

  • Implement the Trust's Fire Safety Policy and the underpinning procedures and protocols in line with current legislation and guidance.
  • Undertake fire risk assessments in line with the requirements set out in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 200 work with the Trust Fire Manager to develop and maintain an environment, which will reduce the risk of harm to patients/clients, their relatives/carers and other healthcare personnel
  • Required to plan, implement and monitor the annual fire risk assessments for all sites, linking these to best practice approaches NHS Standards especially those related to Safety and the environment and trust risk assessment policies
  • Responsible for developing policies and procedures, ensuring they are focused on both staff and patients, regularly reviewed and amended in light of legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical advice on fire safety issues and related procedures at all sites. This requires dealing with all staff from Site Board level down through the organisation.
  • Undertake audits on the efficient and safe operation of all fire fighting equipment, emergency lighting and fire alarm systems (list not exclusive) in association with the relevant Estates Officer.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist Fire Safety Courses e.g. Fire Service College or NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management and or relevant Fire Service experience.
  • Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers/or relevant professional body
  • Qualification in Risk Assessment and/or Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Significant experience of Fire safety management providing expert advice and knowledge to the Trust Board and operational staff across departmental boundaries on fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation and codes of practice and fire safety training.
  • Experience of working with Capital Projects team/contractors for new build or refurbishment projects.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Healthcare guidance, HTM's, HBN's and other industry specific guidance
  • Conversant with HTM, HBN, IEE EN and British Standards, Fire code and Encode.
