Job Summary

As a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP), you will have the opportunity to work autonomously within your agreed scope of practice, training stage, and level of competence to deliver high-quality patient-centered care. Your duties will include advanced assessment, examination, diagnosis, and management.

The tACP educational program combines academic university study with work-based clinical learning, providing you with the support to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma/MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Upon meeting the set objectives, you will advance to a band 8a ACP role. This progression involves adhering to the Centre for Advancing Practice's framework and guidelines for advanced practice, operating within the Multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (HEE 2017).

Your role will involve an 80% clinical focus and a 20% emphasis on leadership, management, education, and research.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Autonomously collaborate with individuals, families, and carers to manage a patient caseload using various advanced assessment methods such as history taking, physical examination, and mental health assessments.
  • Utilize expertise and decision-making skills to navigate through individual presentations and complex situations, making evidence-based judgments and diagnoses.
  • Practice in accordance with professional conduct codes.
  • Define an individual scope of practice within legal, ethical, and organizational frameworks, focusing on risk management and safety.
  • Operate within locally agreed upon advanced clinical practice competence and capability, taking responsibility for your decisions and actions.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Child)
  • BSc/1st Degree
  • Specialist training, relevant experience, and completion of short courses
  • Teaching & Assessing Qualification

Desirable

  • Clinical assessment and reasoning skills
  • Independent or supplementary non-medical prescriber credentials (where applicable)
  • Relevant NHS leadership qualification or working towards one
  • Previous master's level (level 7) study

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years post-registration experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in relevant specialty
  • Experience in Clinical Leadership
  • Demonstration of proficiency across all four pillars of advanced clinical practice
  • Involvement in audit and research

Desirable

  • Experience as a Clinical Leader
  • Prior experience in an autonomous practice role
  • Involvement in service development
