Job overview

An Exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Matron for the Acute Medical service.

The Deputy Matron will have clinical and leadership responsibility for the Medical Receiving Unit and Ambulatory Care service providing oversight of the safety, governance and Senior nursing team they will deputise for the Matron.

They will support the delivery of our Divisional and Trust objectives and be key to the implementation and maintenance of our Ward Accreditation Framework award.

The position offers autonomy and flexibility for the individual recognising the importance of work life balance and fostering a strong team working ethos.

Main duties of the job

To provide expert support/leadership and education in for nursing and the wider team
To deputise in the absence of the Matron to support the Division
Actively participate in meetings and trust meetings to ensure that professional issues are fully represented
To provide direct line management to the senior nurse on Short Stay
To lead the development, improvement, management and promotion of the service, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.
To lead on the implementation and monitoring of adherence to relevant clinical guidelines.
To educate and share expertise with the multidisciplinary teams
To act as a resource in the care of patients with specialist care needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their carers
To develop effective communication and support systems for patients and their families.
To embed patient and public involvement within the sphere of practice.
To establish links with other organisations providing support and information and utilise these additional resources where necessary.
To adhere to infection control guidelines and procedures.
To act as a positive role model for nurses in the hospital through the
demonstration of strong leadership skills.
To work clinically on the ward regularly providing leadership visibility and role modelling.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

RGN First degree or evidence of equivalent experience in relevant specialist area IV cannulation, venepuncture and drug administration Mentorship programme (ENTO or teaching and assessing) Able to demonstrate an understanding of Professional Development Plans

Skills/ Abilities
