About Space
Do you want to work for an organisation that truly cares about its staff?

Do you want to use your skills to make a difference to the lives of hundreds of families every week?

If the answer is yes, Space is the place for you.

At Space We see a future where communities thrive, where people belong and lead fulfilling lives

With members and partners, we address wellbeing and economic challenges through our services and Social Enterprises

We believe that connections build communities

We deliver 17 projects, with over 60 staff and 250 volunteers.

We deliver diverse services supporting young people, families, older people and carers amongst others, engaging with local people more than 34,000 times last year.

The Role

The main purpose of the role is to plan, organise and deliver a programme of interesting, fun youth work activities in consultation with the young people that access the club, ensuring they are at the centre of their own planning.

The Senior Youth Worker will facilitate a much needed safe space in the community for children and young people to engage in a range of youth work opportunities, encompassing informal education, fun and issue based sessions.

The post holder will provide direct support to our youth workers and volunteers, and be a key leader in our Youth & Families team, building positive working relationships within Space and externally.

Key Tasks include:

  • Consult with young people to help shape an annual programme of creative, fun activities
  • Plan, implement and deliver weekly sessions alongside the youth work team, encouraging the young people to participate and engage
  • Facilitate the staff and volunteer briefing at the beginning of each session, ensuring the aims and objectives are clear
  • Liaise with the Project Manager before sessions to discuss local/national issues, safety concerns and other relevant matters that may contribute to how sessions are delivered
  • Participate in a debrief with the staff and volunteers after each session. Using the time to identify outcomes, highlight any concerns and potential new areas of work, documenting these in a written evaluation
  • Keep abreast of sector knowledge and standards, research and best practice
  • Be a role model for all staff and stakeholders, showing optimistic, determined and positive leadership
  • Encourage all staff to engage and contribute constructively to matters across the organisation
  • Demonstrate dynamic leadership in line with Space values and comply with organisational HR policies and employment law.

They will have a sound understanding of the needs and challenges faced by young people, in particular those who comes from areas of deprivation.
