Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Senior Nurse to apply for the post of Lead Nurse within the Forward Thinking Birmingham Specialist Eating Disorder Service(SEDS) for children and young adults with eating disorder needs.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the Forward Thinking Birmingham Specialist Eating Disorder Service to:

Ensure safe and effective clinical practice

Enhance the children and young people's experience of care

Manage and develop the performance of the team

Contribute to the delivery of the Trust objectives

Main duties of the job

Ensure that patients are able to access treatment within safe and appropriate timeframe, an compliance with Eating disorder access and waiting times standards.

Ensure the team provide a collaborative approach and effective skills in engagement, assessment and care planning with children/young adults and their families who have eating disorders and mental or physical health comorbidities.

Hold a small caseload of complex patients, and support staff with management of complex clinical situations.

Ensure treatment is evidence-based, and that patient-centered recovery principles are used to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate interventions provided by the team to promote recovery and independence.

Have an excellent understanding of the physical health risks and comorbidities for patients with eating disorders, and complications due to low weight and compensatory behaviours

Ensure clinical staff are competent and confident in assessment and monitoring of physical health needs for eating disorder patients.

Ensure clinical staff have sound knowledge and understanding of risk assessment and risk management models for safe practice with patients.

The post holder will ensure nursing staff have access to regular clinical supervision, caseload management, and performance appraisals.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Registered MH nurse with current NMC registration Relevant health care degree or Relevant management experience at Masters level or Evidence of on-going professional development in relation to FTB or young people's mental health.

Desirable

Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of evidence based practice for patients with Eating Disorders CBT-E, DBT, MANTRA, FT-AN, FBT

Experience

Essential

Extensive experience of working with eating disorder patients Operational management experience in a senior nurse position, including staff and pathway management Good knowledge of the NICE guidance and Access and Waiting Times standards for Eating Disorder Services (CYP and adults)

Desirable

Experience of contributing to planning and evaluation of services
