We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic PA to join our acute medicine team at Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.

Our diverse multidisciplinary acute medicine team currently consists of nurses, advanced clinical practitioners, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, junior doctors, pharmacy, therapies, clerical staff, managers and consultants.

There is a dedicated Acute Medical Unit (AMU) for acute and general medical patients - with assessment areas, a short stay inpatient area and an integrated acute frailty template. The team also runs the Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) Unit, which has outpatient and trolley-based areas for assessment and treatment. In addition, the team work alongside other clinicians managing patients referred to and under medicine within the emergency department.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Main duties of the job

You will work across the clinical areas mentioned above and work closely with colleagues in acute, general and emergency medicine to provide care to an unselected medical cohort of patients; as well as liaising with medical specialties including respiratory, stroke medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, care of the elderly, palliative care and diabetes and endocrinology. Princess of Wales hospital also has a range of surgical specialties, as well as radiology, obstetrics & gynaecology, critical care and orthopaedics.

We encourage our team members to have a special interest or skill and we will support you in maintaining/developing this. Participation in educational programmes, teaching, professional development, audit and quality improvement will also be encouraged and facilitated. An annual study budget of £300 will be offered.

Qualifications

Essential

Qualified Physician Associate (PA) with relevant postgraduate qualifications Currently working as a PA Possess additional, transferable, highly specialist knowledge acquired through training or experience to Masters Level equivalency. Registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Registry for Physician Associates/Faculty of PAs. Membership of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the Royal College of Physicians.

Desirable

Evidence of CPD Teaching/Mentoring course. ALS competent

Experience

Essential

Previous role as a PA in medicine Experience in the acute care setting.

Desirable

Experience of managing staff and resources Knowledge of audit Knowledge of patient planning and assessments.
